"I first decided to have a go at drag racing in 2004. I had always been interested in the dragbikes whenever I had gone to Meremere in the past.
So off I went to compete in one of the Friday night street meetings.
I had two bikes at the time, a Honda SP1 and a Suzuki Hayabusa. I had intended to keep them both for a while and then sell one. I actually enjoyed riding around on the Honda more than the 'Busa, but with my new found interest in straight line racing it was the Honda that had to go.
I ended up getting down to the mid 10s on my first Friday meeting, and have been hooked since then.
Being an engineer I also like to tinker with the bike to try and make it go better, which I have been doing ever since.
The bike is now quite extensively modified and is the only streetbike in New Zealand to run in the 8s, holding the A/SB record of 8.79s @ 157mph".

Sometimes, Hayabusas leak water, and you have to push them home..

But that doesn't stop you racing next round, and Dean was the most successful drag bike racer in the country for the 2006/07 season, taking the titles of
Champion Dragway Mr Dragracer Winner 2007
Champion Dragway Pointscore Winner 2007
New Zealand Nationals Champion 2007
NZDRA National Champion 2007
Not a bad effort Dean!
