Alban (Orb) Morbey
Best time:- 9.8 sec and 142 mph or 228.53 kph
In
1999 the bike was put together as a budget competition pushrod dragbike (A/PCB).
First season Orb ran it with a 5-1/2” Tilton clutch, which was very heavy and
hence difficult to obtain consistent launches with. In the winter of 2000, Orb
fitted the B&J two speed and the 10” Crowerglide clutch. Best time in
the 2000/2001 season was 11.9, with the bike starving for
fuel at two
thirds track.
At the next and last meeting Orb went too far on the rich side and went, in Orb’s own words, “backwards at the end of the season”! Easter 2001 came around and Orb fitted the B&M blower and took the bike to the New Plymouth 1/8th mile street drags. The bike went well enough to win Orb Fastest Comp Bike on the day, even though “it could have done with lower gearing”. Orb is looking forward to getting the bike back on the strip for some serious testing and tuning prior to the coming 2001/2002 season.
